Get ready…Blackberry picking time is upon us!
Whilst out on a walk in late August, you might be lucky enough to stumble across a bush brimming with shiny, black fruits – Blackberries! After a summer of unpredictable weather, from heatwaves to heavy downpours, these sweet berries are usually in abundance across the countryside and ready to be picked from late August through to early October. So, in preparation for this, we thought we’d give you a few interesting facts about blackberries and a simple recipe for blackberry jam!
The best place to go foraging for blackberries may be in the woods, hedges, heaths, roadside verges, and possibly even your own garden. When picking these plump fruits, make sure to leave some for the wildlife as they also enjoy feasting on the sweet fruit.
Not only are blackberries delicious, but they also have numerous benefits! Their dark blue colour ensures they have one of the highest antioxidant levels of all fruits. Consumption of blackberries can also help promote healthy, younger-looking skin, and prolonged consumption can help to keep your brain alert, thereby maintaining clarity of thought and good memory. At Valentte, we love anything supplied by nature that improves our health and well-being, so of course, we’re all for some end-of-summer blackberries.
