I’m enjoying an autobiography on Elon Musk, the founder of PayPal and the driving force behind Space X and Tesla Cars. The book provides a fascinating insight into the mind and workings of a modern-day Henry Ford.

What strikes me most is the passion and relentless focus on the details. Musk has an almost photographic memory and encyclopaedic knowledge and understanding of his products. He combines this with crystal clarity in their objective. He drives his teams unbelievably hard, and his vision for his companies is off the charts in terms of grandiosity. I hope he makes it. We need more entrepreneurs who dare to dream this big.

I’m reminded of Steve Jobs in his relentless paring down and simplifying of apple products to make them easier to use, simpler and more beautiful.

The two men share a total dedication and belief in their companies to create something extraordinary. I don’t use that word lightly. They refuse to compromise in their vision, and the products they have designed reflect this total commitment. I believe we can all learn something from them.

In the pursuit of your dreams, it is so easy to compromise, to be mediocre, to be average, to be normal. These qualities can make for a comfortable life. But they don’t create masterpieces. They don’t build champions, and they definitely don’t create extraordinary lives.

If you believe in yourself and desire to be that one in a million. If you have big dreams and are determined to fulfil them, then I urge you to take inspiration from Elon Musk and Steve Jobs.

You need to work hard, be relentless, be clear about your goal, never compromise on your vision, inspire and lead your team towards those goals. Keep improving yourself, your company, your products every day. Not just today and tomorrow but for the rest of time.

There is no end to these kinds of ambitions. You hold the key to your future in your hands. You have everything in you to achieve it right now. Dedicate yourself to it, and the future is yours. Long before others believe, you must believe it’s possible.

Remember, we climb the mountain, not in giant leaps but one small step at a time.
